CLASS 1: Writing a Small-Scale Memoir
Do you think you can't remember the past—even the long-ago past?
This course will guide you through a fascinating process of unlocking memories and experiences you may not realize you still have access to. Through carefully designed writing exercises, you will learn how to reconstruct your personal history, preserve your legacy for future generations, and create the foundation for a larger memoir or life story.
Whether you wish to share your memories with family members or continue developing your writing, this class will help you discover and capture the stories that matter most.
CLASS 2: Writing a Children's Story: Voice, Story, and Structure
This step-by-step course explores the essential elements of writing original stories for children. Participants will learn how to develop their authentic voice, create engaging characters, and build compelling story structures.
These classes are designed for aspiring writers, educators, grandparents, parents, and anyone who wishes to connect with the child within and tell meaningful stories.
ABOUT HELENA CLARE PITTMAN
Helena Clare Pittman has been teaching writing for over forty years. A number of her books have received distinguished awards and honors. She is the author of 17 published children's books and has had 26 stories published in Cricket Magazine. Her acclaimed picture book, "A Grain of Rice," has remained in print for over 43 years and was selected for The New York Times Best Picture Books List. Her book "Uncle Phil's Diner" was recognized as a Smithsonian List Book, among many other honors. Helena has taught writing at the CUNY Queens College Graduate Education Department as an Author-in-Residence, helping teachers develop their own writing skills. She has also taught at The Center for Creative Writing, where she continues to teach online. In addition to her literary accomplishments, Helena is an accomplished painter who has taught at Parsons School of Design and SUNY Farmingdale.
